Description

What is polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate (PC) distinguishes itself from other plastics by its optical purity. Also, one of the most important properties of polycarbonate is its enormous impact resistance; it is a solid, hard and transparent material.

Polycarbonate is no less than 250 times stronger than glass of the same thickness and 50 % lighter. Therefore, it is often applied as a replacement for glass. Polycarbonate is often used as safety glazing, but also as protection that must be lout-proof, burglar-proof, impact-resistant or extra safe.

Advantages polycarbonate

The advantages of polycarbonate over glass are that they are much lighter than glass and most types are virtually unbreakable. Also, most transparent plastics have very good thermal and/or chemical properties. This makes it possible to make lighter constructions.

In addition, polycarbonate has an excellent fire classification of Bs1d0. Because it has a high temperature resistance, it is permitted by the fire brigade to be used in public and commercial areas. The material is also self-extinguishing and fire retardant.

The transparent polycarbonate sheets from Kunststof Forte Belgium are unbreakable and can be cold bent without tearing.

The transparent polycarbonate sheets have a glossy surface or a UV-protective surface.

Applications transparent polycarbonate sheets

Polycarbonate sheets are perfect for applications where glass is too breakable or too heavy.

Burglar glazing, glazing for bus shelters, bicycle shelters, lighting, ceiling panels, machine parts, protective covers, bulkheads, technical products/services, boat windows, illuminated signs and it is also often used in the food industry.
