Description

Opal cast acrylic (PMMA) sheets | GS

The opal acrylate (PMMA) sheets, also known as plexiglass, at Kunststof Forte Belgium are made of extruded acrylate. They are available in different thicknesses (2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm and 5 mm) and dimensions.

Due to the opal surface, the sheets are often used in the lighting industry. The material allows light to pass through and diffuses it beautifully.

Acrylate (PMMA) is one of the most versatile types of plastic and exerts a special attraction on people. For this reason, acrylate is used in numerous applications in the world of advertising. Characteristic properties

Cast Plexiglas is in many respects a more reliable product than the extruded version. This is due to the production method in which the casting process produces a more stress-free quality that distinguishes itself with extensive mechanical processing.

Difference between cast and extruded acrylic

There are two main types of acrylate, cast and extruded. An advantage of cast acrylate is that it can easily be produced in small quantities, which offers flexibility. In addition to cast acrylate, we also have extruded clear acrylate, which has the advantage of having hardly any thickness tolerance.

Cast and extruded acrylic Clear acrylic is weather-resistant, UV-stable and does not yellow at all. It is lightweight, practically unbreakable and easy to process.

It is also up to 25 times stronger than glass and easier to process. Acrylate is often used in the lighting industry, because it is a beautiful material in combination with acrylate, it catches the light and conducts it. Furthermore, this plastic is very durable. If you use and maintain the sheets properly, they will remain beautiful for years.

Applications

  • Illuminated signs
  • Displays
  • Screen print
  • Name and signposting

Processing options

Opal PMMA (Perspex) can be drilled, milled, engraved, sawed, glued, bent and polished.

Each operation requires the necessary caution as the plate can always crack. Especially when you have to perform several operations per plate, a cast plate is recommended.
